Prayer is an amazing way for us to connect to our Divinity. It allows us to communicate with our Source and ask for guidance. There are so many different approaches to prayer, ranging from complex rituals, to simple requests. Many people feel the amazing power and connection that comes from praying to Source. But how does prayer work? Is it ok to ask for what we want? Is there a way we should ask to make sure we get it? Is prayer a one-way connection, or can we get guidance just by being willing to hear it? Is prayer worth the time?

I just had a conversation about this very thing with a friend yesterday. She was upset that she had not been able to surrender her will to God, regarding the health of her daughter. She said she was unable to not want her daughter to heal. I suggested that surrender does not mean we don't want what we want. For me, I definitely express my preferences and desires. Then, as best I can, I surrender outcome to the Higher Good, which may not match what I want in the moment. For me, prayer has become more a state of mind that something I consciously do. I had a practice for a long time of considering every step a prayer, literally. This step is a prayer, this step is a prayer, etc. until I reached a point where I was, like Apostle Paul suggests, praying without ceasing.

That is a very interesting story. I was just telling one of my clients yesterday how I kept my precious cat sick by being so hysterical about his health. He wasn't able to go to the bathroom and I made myself sick, sure that he was dying. I went on like this for weeks until my guides and some good friends told me that I was making him sick by being so hysterical. When I looked at it clairvoyantly I realized they were right. I was holding him into the energy by focusing on his being unwell. I was so sure that he was going to die that I was keeping him that way. I wanted him to get better, but I forget the simple truth of the Law of Attraction. I was sending out to the universe, not only my certainty that he was sick and was going to die, but also how much I wanted him to get well. When we want something, we are telling the Universe to create the want for it. So we never get what we want. We have to be able to allow it to manifest in order for it to happen.

Erin, I remember when you were going through that with the cat. Of course, I also remember the day the cat took ownership of you!
Neva- excellent point about prayer as a state of mind! I try to attain to that myself, but there are also times I still need to deliberately focus distinct prayers. Also, it's good for me to wrestle with the Divine Will & Highest Good vs. what I want. Sometimes, I have had to pray "Not Thy will, but mine!" just so God & I could duke it out for a while.

Yeah, well, we do love that wrestle, don't we Ted. All the way back to Jacob, wrestling with those angels.

I wouldn't say that I love the wrestling, but I do think it's good for me! *L*

Ok Ted, so how do you know that Divine Will isn't for you to make your own decisions? We are given Free Will for a reason. How do you know that Divine Will isn't for us to struggle to achieve our aims?

...Maybe I can answer questions for Ted. Before I was born, I freely chose a plan to follow on earth according to Divine Will. Here, I can't remember.the plan. Choosing to do well for my self and all others or not without proof of outcome is Man's lot and the knowledge gained that way may well be what fascinates higher dimension entities. On the other hand, maybe I can't answer questions for Ted. You go guy! I always learn when you write

Erin- Sometimes it is for me to decide for myself, sometimes it isn't. Usually struggle goes with either path! *L*
Rolland- THAT is excellent! It's not what I would have said but it's really good. And thanks for the boost!

I read a statement somewhere about a way of praying,(forgive my memory blowout!). Instead of asking, one states what one' wants, like a command to the universe. The Lord's prayer is a perfect example. Of course it helps to know and align it with God's wishes for us, which is our heart's deepest, most perennial desire. In the logic of the heart, it is oneself who denies or accommodates our 'request'.

Rolland, I learn when the two of you write. You are obviously kindred spirits. I would like to add that instead of praying for what you 'want', it is more effective to pray for what you are willing to allow. This allows the manifestation to come through. If we tell the Universe we 'want' something, the Universe creates the want for that thing.
